TJC SWEEPS SOCCER DH

Written by Jarah Wright, ETFinalScore.com

In front of a small but supportive crowd, the Tyler Junior College men's and women's soccer teams combined to shut out the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles in both matches on Friday at Pat Hartley Field.

In the women's game, Tyler won 5-0 to move to 11-2 on the season and 3-1 in Region XIV play.

The Apaches scored a 3-0 win to push their record to 10-1 and 6-0.

The Apache Ladies' first goal came in the 12th minute with freshman forward Keeley Bowles charging down the field. Bowles made the pass to teammate Brooke Johnston who kicked the ball in the net. Seventeen minutes later, sophomore forward Khalisha Bond scored from less than five yards out to give TJC a two-goal advantage.

TJC added another goal in the 43rd minute after sophomore midfielder Lindsey Jones knocked one over the leaping goalie's head into the back left corner of the net.

In the second half, TJC had several chances early on to score but didn't convert until the 59th minute. The Northeast Texas' goalie came out to block a shot with her hands. The deflected ball came straight down in front of the net where Moriah Phillips scored the easy goal. With nine minutes left in the game, Jacquelyn Olle to make the final scored the fifth goal.

More fans from Northeast Texas filled in to watch the men's game and were very vocal throughout the game but that didn't stop TJC's momentum as the men pushed the tempo on the field.

The lone goal of the first half came from freshman defender Fernando Arellano who sent the ball into the bottom right corner of the net in the 29th minute.

The Apaches quickly jumped on the ball in the second half scoring in the 51st minute. Freshman forward Nazeem Bartman worked the ball down into the right corner of the field before passing the ball to Martin Agredo, who kicked the ball through the legs of two defenders to find the net.

It looked like those would be the only goals of the game but TJC managed to come up with a last-minute score in the 89th minute. Yaw Amankwa kicked the ball almost 30-yards downfield to Arellano who made a perfect pass in front of the net to Jose Garcia who followed through with the third and final goal.

Both teams play today at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. against Paris Junior College in conference matchups at Pat Hartley Field.
