On a warm, sunny Sunday afternoon the top-ranked Navarro College women's soccer team defeated the fifth-ranked Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies 1-0 to take the Region XIV championship and advance to the district tournament.

The Apache Ladies finish their season with a record of 16-3-1. Navarro will play in the NJCAA District I tournament on November 8-9 in Cisco.

A nice crowd gathered at the soccer field packing out the bleachers, bringing chairs and blankets to sit around the sides of the field.

They brought horns, duck calls, and even a drum line played. At the center of it all, a championship matchup that turned into a tale of two goalies: Navarro's Reilly Fetzko and TJC's Kathryn VanMeter. Both teams were fired up as the whistle blew to begin the match. Possession went back and forth with players on both sides getting multiple shots. But both goalies put on a show with diving blocks to ensure neither team would score in the first half.

Coming out of haltime, the Apache Ladies had several scoring opportunities but Navarro's defense held strong and its offense came alive.

In the 64th minute, the Bulldogs sent a ball to the back of the net. Sophomore forward Arantza Trejo received a long pass from a teammate in front of the goal and kicked the ball around the TJC goalie to score the lone goal of the match.
