Apaches Nearly Upset #15 Cardinals in Hard-Fought Overtime Game

Athens, TX – The Apaches gave the #15-ranked Cardinals a run for their money on Saturday, battling to a 60-60 tie at the end of regulation before heading into overtime. The Apaches started strong in the first quarter, staying just two points behind the Cardinals, 12-14. They then made a surge in the second quarter, outscoring TVCC 15-12 to take a slim 27-26 lead into halftime.

The Apaches kept up the pressure in the third quarter, leading 14-12, and continued to play competitively in the fourth. However, the Cardinals edged out the Apaches in the final period, outscoring them 22-19, to force the game into overtime. In overtime, Cardinal #10 Niylia Wilkins took control, helping her team outscore the Apaches 10-6 for the win.

Despite the loss, the Apaches put together a solid performance, with standout players including Monica Bottley, who scored 17 points, and Kyra Anderson, who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.

The Apaches will meet the Cardinals again Wednesday, February 26th, at home at 5:30 pm.
