TJC blanks San Jac

The Apaches blanked rival San Jacinto-South 2-0; and with the victory clinched the Region XIV regular season championship.

"We played well … glad to get the shutout and glad to get (clinching regular season title) done tonight," said TJC coach Steve Clements, whose club improved to 11-3 on the season and 9-1 in Region XIV.

TJC, ranked No. 9. took a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute as Brendan O'Connor scored off an assist from Brahan Gamarra. Tyler then made it 2-0 in the 72nd minute as Ali Musse found the net. Yazeed Matthews assisted on the goal.The Coyotes fall to 10-5-1 overall and 9-3 in conference.

William Diaz was in goal for the Apaches, who are four-time national champions and the defending national champions.

TJC's regular season home finale is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday against Jacksonville College at Pat Hartley Soccer Complex.
