TYLER, Texas—Tyler Junior College's football team will take on New Mexico Military Institute (2-2, 1-1 SWJCFC) at 3 PM on October 5th at Christus TMF Rose Stadium as Tyler (2-2, 2-0 SWJCFC) looks to stay undefeated in Southwest Junior College Football Conference play.
TJC is coming off a 23-13 win at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (1-3, 0-2 SWJCFC) in a game where they set a season high in points.
NMMI makes the eight-and-a-half-hour trip from Roswell, New Mexico coming off their bye week, but the week prior the Colts picked up a 21-16 win over Blinn College in a game that they totaled 409 yards of offense in a balanced passing and rushing attack.
The Apaches were in an unusual situation last week at NEO as Injuries to quarterbacks Josh Thomas and Tre Guerra gave redshirt freshman QB Nathan Greek the first start of his young collegiate career.
Greek delivered a strong performance as he threw for 112 yards, slung two passing TDs, and didn't record a turnover in TJC's second conference win of their 2024 campaign.
"We have a lot of confidence in Nate. His performance was nothing unexpected, he's got some gamer to him" said Head Coach Jacobson when asked about how big it was to get such a solid performance out of his young third-string QB.
With QB's Guerra and Thomas still injured, Greek will make his second career start as the Apaches attempt to start 3-0 in conference play for the first time under third-year head coach Tanner Jacobson.
The Apaches are also honoring those in the armed forces by offering free admission to all active, reserve, and veterans with military ID. Get to the game early to watch Tyler Junior College student and purple heart recipient Staff Sergeant Robert Rivera join the captains for the pre-game coin toss, as well as the presenting of the colors by Tyler High School Color Guard.
