The Tyler Junior College  introduced longtime TJC baseball coach Doug Wren as the 6th Athletics Director in Tyler Junior College history on June 17, 2024.  

Doug Wren started coaching at Tyler Junior College in the fall of 2007 as an assistant coach and took over as head coach of the Apaches in the fall of 2009. In his years as the Head Coach at Tyler, Wren has guided his team to the NJCAA World Series 8 times  and has amassed a record of 566-267.  He led the Apaches to five National Championship Titles ('14,'15,'16,'17,'21), raising the total to six in program history.  He has been named District C Coach of the Year 7 times, National Coach of the Tournament Award 5 times, National Coach of the year 5 times and has been a finalist for the Skip Bertman National Coach of the year award twice. 

Wren was awarded the prestigious Jerry Kindall Character in Coaching Award in 2023. FCA presents the Kindall Award each year at the ABCA Convention to the college or high school baseball coach who best exemplifies the Christian principles of character, integrity, excellence, teamwork and service.

As Head Coach, Wren has coached 26 All Americans, 8 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove winners, and 4 National Players of the Year!  He has coached numerous Apaches that have been taken in the MLB drafted including most notably former All American and National Player of the Year Taylor Broadway, former All American and National Pitcher of the Year Jace Vines, and most recently Region 14 North Pitcher of the year Noah Ruen, drafted by Los Angeles Dodgers and catcher Will Bush, drafted and signed by the Houston Astros.

Since being named the Head Coach of Tyler Junior College in 2009, Wren has also served in other coaching capacities.  He has coached the TX-NM All Star Team on 5 separate occasions and was an assistant on the NJCAA National Team during the summer of 2016.  In 2018, he was named the Head Coach of the NJCAA National Team in which they finished 2nd at the NBC World Series.

Wren also currently serves as the Vice President on the NJCAA Executive committee along with sitting on the NJCAA International committee. He most recently has joined the D1 Baseball Poll Committee in the spring of 2023.       

Prior to his stint at TJC, Wren started his coaching career at Weatherford College in 2007 following a playing career at Tyler Junior College and Howard Payne University.  After one year at Weatherford College and a summer coaching in the Texas Collegiate League with the Weatherford Wranglers, Wren took an assistant job under Coach Jon Groth at his alma mater TJC.  After two seasons as an assistant coach at Tyler, a graduate degree from UT Tyler and a summer where Doug led the AIA international team to Nicaragua, Wren was named Head Baseball Coach at Tyler Junior College.

Doug and his wife, Amelia, reside in Tyler, Texas, with their 3 young children Baker, Brooks and Mabry.
