BRENHAM, Texas – The Tyler Junior College Baseball team scored six runs over the first two innings and held off a late rally to defeat Paris Junior College 8-7 on Friday in the opening round of the Region XIV Tournament at Leroy Dreyer Field-Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.

The Apaches improved to 33-21 overall, while Paris fell to 32-21.

Tyler took a 3-1 lead in the first inning on solo home runs by James Raecek and Davis Perkins and an RBI single from Garrett Hayes. The Apaches added three more runs in the second when Landry Stamps hit a solo home run, Micah Roberts drove in a run with a single and Hayes added another RBI hit.

Tyler extended its lead to 7-1 in the fourth on an RBI sacrifice bunt by Noah Paddie and made it 8-2 in the seventh on an RBI triple by Stamps.

Paris scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh before plating four runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to one. Chris Langley entered in the eighth and recorded the final five outs to earn his second save of the season.

Raecek finished 3 for 6 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Stamps went 2 for 5 with a home run, triple, RBI and two runs scored. Hayes added two hits and two RBIs, while Landon Miller came off the bench to go 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored.

Trevor Breaux earned the win after allowing one run on five hits over five innings. He struck out one and walked four to improve to 3-1.

Paris was led by Nadav Machlin, who went 4 for 5 with four RBIs, including a two-run triple in the eighth inning.

Both teams finished with 13 hits. Tyler hit three home runs and committed two errors, while Paris committed one error.

The Apaches will move on to face San Jacinto College- North in a rematch of the South Regional first round on Wednesday where the Apaches fell 12-3 to the Ravens.
