World Series Bid Officially Awarded
The National Junior College Athletic Association Board of Directors voted to award Tyler the NJCAA Division III World Series for 2013-15, Dr. Tim Drain, Tyler Junior College athletic director, and Cindy Smoak, vice president of SPORTyler, said on Saturday.
"I am absolutely thrilled that the city of Tyler will be the host of the World Series from 2013-2015," Drain said. "We have been a proud host since 2007 and I feel like it has improved every year. I sincerely thank Cindy (Smoak) and Kim (Morris) for taking their valuable time to work on this proposal."
Smoak said thanks in large part to an agreement with Wells Fargo Advisors, Tyler, Texas, Office, to sponsor the tournament at the presenting sponsor level for the next four years, the tournament was again awarded to Tyler.
Representatives from SPORTyler, Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau and TJC presented a bid on Wednesday in Colorado Springs, Colo., during the NJCAA's annual meeting. The committee then voted on Saturday to award the Rose City the tournament.
The NJCAA World Series has called Tyler its home since 2007, but this year representatives from Greeneville, Tenn., also presented a proposal to the selection committee for the eight-team tournament.
Smoak said the tournament brings with it an estimated economic impact of $250,000.
"This tournament not only offers an economic impact to the city, it is also a great event to be a part of," Smoak said. "I am so excited and thankful that the tournament will be coming back to Tyler. I am equally as excited that Wells Fargo Advisors, Tyler, Texas, Office are partnering with us."
The presenting sponsor issued a statement as well: "Wells Fargo Advisors, Tyler, Texas, Office is delighted to partner with SPORTyler and Tyler Junior College to bring this outstanding national event to Tyler. We join with everyone in Tyler in looking forward to the tournament's success and the contribution it will make to our community."
