AT&T TO SPONSOR WAGSTAFF HOLIDAY CLASSIC

AT&T Texas will be a sponsor of the Tyler Junior College Wagstaff Holiday Classic, as well as select home football, home men's and women's basketball, home soccer and home baseball games.
The Wagstaff Holiday Classic high school basketball tournament has grown steadily since its inception more than 30 years ago by Floyd Wagstaff, the legendary TJC basketball coach and athletic director.
Since then, the Tyler community has embraced the tournament as a holiday tradition, attracting many area high school teams and bringing more than 15,000 fans to the gym each year.
"We are pleased to add AT&T's sponsorship assistance to the tournament and our home spectator sports for the 2006-07 season," said Dr. Tim Drain, director of intercollegiate athletics at TJC.
"Bringing strong corporate sponsors, like AT&T, ensures that growth and innovation remain hallmarks of TJC sports. We are thankful for their generous assistance to help us emphasize a vibrant student life on our campus."
The student body of nearly 10,000 has the opportunity to participate in 10 team sports, all with competitive schedules.
TJC's tennis teams have won 26 national titles since 1975 and claimed two national men's basketball championships, one ladies basketball championship, one football championship and six men's golf titles through the National Junior College Athletic Association.
"We are proud to be a part of the Apache spirit," said Cynthia McFarland, area manager for local market execution in the East Texas market of AT&T Texas. "Our goal is to meet and exceed the needs of East Texas through a continued relationship - not only during the holidays, but throughout the year.
"The Wagstaff Holiday Classic basketball tournament has brought an atmosphere of excitement and unity to East Texas," said Candice Gast, regional director for External Affairs in the East Texas market of AT&T Texas.
"We look forward to partnerships like this because they encompass what AT&T is all about - connecting families, friends and neighbors."
