The signing season is in full force this spring as six more Tyler Junior College athletes inked with four-year colleges on Tuesday.

Committing for the next two years were four soccer players — Alice Coyne (Lindsey Wilson College), Carina Dunnahoo (Midwestern State University), Stacie Murray (University of Massachusetts) and Jahmela Williams (Clayton State University), and two basketball players — Carolina Lopez (Oral Roberts University) and Adrienne Phillips (Bethune-Cookman University).

The group put their signatures on the dotted line during a ceremony in the foyer of Wagstaff Gymnasium before teammates, friends, coaches and supporters.

In her 13 years as head coach at Tyler Junior College, Trenia Jones has never experienced a season like this.

Normally, the Apache Ladies and Trinity Valley are playing on the final day of the tournament — not the first.

A very trying season came to a conclusion on Wednesday for TJC with an 87-47 loss to No. 1-ranked TVCC in the quarterfinals of the Region XIV Women's Basketball Tournament at the Herrington Patriot Center.

Tyler Junior College women's basketball coach Trenia Jones will take any kind of win this year. That's especially true when her team clinches a playoff berth.

In the final home game of a forgetful season, the Apache Ladies snapped a six-game losing streak and earned a spot in the Region XIV basketball tournament with a 58-56 victory against Kilgore College on Wednesday at Wag-staff Gymnasium.

Nine is fine for the Apaches, while eight was enough for the Bulldogs.

With both teams riding eight-game win streaks, Tyler Junior College kept its record spotless in 2013 with a 75-73 win over Navarro College on Saturday in an intense Region XIV basketball game at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

In the first game, Jacksonville College broke open a close contest late for a 66-56 over the Apache Ladies.

Both Tyler teams return to play on Wednesday, taking on Kilgore College at Masters Gym in Kilgore. The women play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
