Grace Community senior Rilee Miller meant everything to the Lady Cougars volleyball team.

Next year she hopes to do a little bit of everything for the Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies.

Sophomore Jaqueline Santos was named to the NJCAA First Team All American squad, the National Office announced today.  Earlier, Santos was named a First Team All American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) is pleased to announce its Two-Year Colleges Women's Volleyball All-America Teams.  Among those honored was TJC's Jaqueline Santos, who was named to an AVCA First Team All-American.  Santos led the Lady Apaches to a magical year, finishing undefeated in Zone play, being ranked #1 in the nation during the year, and finished a school best 5th in the nation at the NJCAA National Championships.

After playing some of the best NJCAA Div. I volleyball teams in the country, the Tyler Junior College team came home somewhat satisfied and looking forward to a well-earned rest.

But then it's back to work for coach Ronda Shirley and her staff, who want to begin building on the Apache Ladies' success as the fifth-place finisher in last week's national championship tournament in West Plains, Mo.

WEST PLAINS, Mo. — The Tyler Junior College Apache Ladies placed fifth at the NJCAA Division I National Volleyball Tournament during Saturday's final round of play.

The Apache Ladies swept College of Central Florida 25-14, 25-21, 25-18.

TJC, which was appearing in the national tournament for the first time since 2002, finishes the season at 32-6.

Tyler's Jaqueline Santos, a sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was voted to the all-tournament team.

Southern Idaho won the title with a 3-0 win over Western Nebraska.

San Jacinto placed third with a 3-1 win over Iowa Western.

Keani Passi of Southern Idaho was voted Most Valuable Player of the tourney, while Southern Idaho's Heidi Cartisser was named Coach of the Tournament.

The TJC volleyball team rebounded from yesterday's loss to grab a five set win over Hillsborough (FL) to advance to tomorrow's Fifth Place game vs. College of Central Florida.  Tip off for that matchup is 2:30pm, and can be viewed on NJCAA TV.  The final score with Hillsborough was 25-12, 18-25, 28-26, 18-25, 15-13.
