After playing post in high school, Trevor Berkeley knew his game would have to change to compete on the collegiate level.

Berkeley, from Tucker, Ga., came to Tyler Junior College to do just that under Apaches basketball coach Mike Marquis. The 6-foot-6 standout is now comfortable as a guard or a forward.

Former Tyler Junior College basketball coach and longtime East Texas educator Randall Milstead passed away Sunday in Nashville, Tenn., after a long illness, his wife Mrs. Judy Waggoner Milstead said.
Services are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Tyler Primitive Baptist Church, 6502 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler with Vernis Stanaland, pastor, officiating.

All season, free throw shooting had been a strength for the Apaches.

Unfortunately, when they needed it most, the free throw line was not their friend.

The difference was San Jacinto made its foul shots as the Ravens scored a 62-52 win over Tyler Junior College in the Region XIV Tournament on Thursday night before 375 fans at the Herrington Patriot Center.

After a day off, the men's portion of the Region XIV basketball tournament gets back in gear Thursday at UT Tyler's Herrington Patriot Center.

It promises to be an outstanding day of hoops with the eight best teams from one of the top leagues in the nation on the court.

Games start at 1 p.m. and continue through the prime-time game at 8 p.m., featuring No. 6 Tyler Junior College (22-8) and South Division winner and No. 3 seed San Jacinto (23-5).

After cruising along and seemingly in control, the Apaches suddenly saw themselves behind in the second half.

That's when Tyler Junior College turned it up a notch thanks to the inspired play of Dale Jones and DeAndre Harris.

Jones and Harris swished long-distance 3s to offset the barrage of treys by Brandon Golden to register a 66-53 Region XIV basketball tournament first-round victory over Coastal Bend on Tuesday at the Herrington Patriot Center.
