The Tyler Junior College tennis program will hold the Apache Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The men's action will take place at the JoAnn Medlock Murphy Tennis Center and the Louise Brookshire Community Tennis Complex, both located on the TJC campus.

Dash Connell, a former All-American tennis player for TJC, has been hired as the red shirt tennis coach for TJC beginning July 1st. He is coming back to TJC after serving on the Willow Fork Tennis Professional staff in Katy, Texas.

Laredo Community College won six of their seven matches today as they defended their National Championship, outscoring Tyler 46-43.

The TJC men's tennis team advanced to four singles finals and two doubles finals at the NJCAA Men's Tennis National Championships.  Going into tomorrow's finals, Tyler holds a narrow 41-40 lead over Laredo.  Laredo is in the finals in 5 of the 6 singles flights and 2 of the 3 doubles flights.  Singles play starts at 8am Friday at Collin County.

The TJC men's tennis team saw their first action today at the NJCAA Men's Tennis National Championships in Plano, TX.  TJC had byes in the first round of all draws, but everyone saw the court today.  TJC swept all 9 singles and doubles matches.  Conference foe and defending national champion Laredo also went 9-0 on the day, while Collin County and ABAC went 8-1 in their 9 flights.  Play continues tomorrow at Collin County Community College.

Four-time defending national tennis champion Laredo Community College is again the favorite this week in Plano. But it won't be a huge surprise if second-ranked Tyler Junior College pulls the upset.
 
"We're very good, too," said TJC head coach John Peterson, who was announced as Coach of the Year for NJCAA Division I tennis at Sunday's banquet. "What we have to do is have somebody just step up and play their best tennis instead of having it all play out according to a draw.
