Former Redwater HS and TJC Running Back Akeem Shavers has been awarded to the Patriots one day after being waived by Buccaneers.
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Former Tyler Junior College Apache and current Purdue Boilermaker Akeem Shavers has signed a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he tweeted.
On his twitter account, @PrinceAkeem24, Shavers, a running back, announced his signing.
Shavers rushed for 871 yards and six TDs while catching 18 passes for 370 yards and three more scores for Purdue last season. He had 95 yards rushing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl before being injured.
Shavers (5-11, 203) was Most Valuable Player of the Little Caesars Prizza Bowl in Detroit in 2011. He rushed for 149 yards on 22 carries to lead Purdue to a 37-32 victory over Western Michigan.

Danny Palmer didn't sugarcoat it when discussing the biggest deficiency and challenge awaiting Tyler Junior College in 2013.
"What we don't have right now are receivers," TJC's head coach said. "Maybe Jonathan Epps is the only one we've got because we were spoiled last year."

Tyler Junior College sophomore Shaquille Murray-Lawrence has never been to Las Vegas, but he knows what it is like to hit the jackpot.
Murray-Lawrence signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas during a ceremony on Friday at the TJC field house.
After playing behind a couple of all-conference running backs, Murray-Lawrence thought his chances of going to the next level might be limited.
