The Tyler Junior College volleyball team split two matches Saturday during the Coach Dana Hatch Invitational at the Ornelas HPE Center.

TJC began the day with a 3-0 win over Richland College. The Apache Ladies won Game 1, 20-16, and Game 2 was tied 20-20 before TJC took the last five points to win 25-20. TJC cruised 25-14 in the third game.

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- The No. 14 Tyler Junior College Apaches suffered their first season-opening loss to a Kansas school after four consecutive wins.

Coffeyville Community College scored on its first offensive play Saturday night and never trailed in defeating the Apaches, 27-10, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The TJC volleyball got off to a good start in the Ronda Shirley era, winning their two matches today in the Coach Dana Hatch Invitational. TJC defeated Southwestern Christian in three sets 25-8, 25-10, 25-13. They then defeated Wharton County 22-25, 25-23, 25-13, 20-25, 15-8. The tournament concludes tomorrow, with TJC playing Richland at 11am and Redlands at 5pm.
