COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- The No. 14 Tyler Junior College Apaches suffered their first season-opening loss to a Kansas school after four consecutive wins.

Coffeyville Community College scored on its first offensive play Saturday night and never trailed in defeating the Apaches, 27-10, at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The temperature was 96 degrees, but the scorching hot sun was no longer a factor by the time the Tyler Junior College Apaches gathered for Wednesday evening's football practice at the Pat Hartley Complex.

After witnessing 102 football players report for physicals Tuesday, Tyler Junior College head coach Danny Palmer proclaimed the Apaches "on solid footing" for the 2010 season.
 
"A very impressive group with being here on time," said Palmer, entering his fourth year at the helm. "There was nobody checked in late in the dorm -- they were all here for the 2 o'clock meeting."

OXFORD, Ohio -- CORY BROWN, a talented 6-5, 290-pound offensive tackle from Grand Prairie, Texas, and Tyler (Texas) Junior College, has joined Coach Michael Haywood's 2010 football team.

Haywood says his newest RedHawk will be eligible this season to play and could definitely challenge for a starting job at the all-important left tackle position.
