Scholarships
‘Tuition and Fee' scholarships are available and are awarded to qualified students at the discretion of the head athletic trainer
A $250 physicians scholarship is also available to assist the students with the rising costs of books
Curriculum
The NATA (National Athletic Trainers' Association) has set forth a core curriculum meant to prepare a student for a career in athletic training. These courses including:
Athletic Training Practicum I
Athletic Training Practicum II
Nutrition in Exercise and Sport
Basic Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries
Advanced Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries (Lab)
Anatomy and Physiology
Personal/Community Health
First Aid/CPR
Taping and Bandaging of Athletic Injuries
State Licensing Requirements
Baccalaureate degree in related field from an accredited college or university
1800 clock-hours of student athletic training completed during at least five fall and/or spring semesters
Current certification in standard first aid and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Successful completion of the Texas Athletic Trainers Written Examination and the Texas Athletic Trainers Practical Examination
National Certification Requirements
Must have high school diploma
Proof of graduation at the baccalaureate level from an accredited college or university
Proof of current certification in CPR or EMT certification
Accumulation of 1500 hours of athletic training experience under the supervision of an NATABOC certified athletic trainer in an accredited curriculum
