TYLER - Chase Harper scored 18 points as No. 2 seed Navarro College rallied behind him for a 69-59 quarterfinal victory Saturday over cold-shooting Tyler Junior College in the Region XIV  tournament .

Navarro (26-5) advances to the semifinals on Sunday against the winner of the quarterfinal game between No. 3 seed San Jacinto and No. 11 seed Lee College, which knocked off No. 6 seed Angelina 82-54 in Thursday's first round.

Matt Pressey added 14 points and Darian Thibodeaux 13 points for the Bulldogs, who are trying to repeat their 2009 trip to Hutchinson, Kan., as the Region XIV representative to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament.

Malcolm Moore led Tyler (18-11) with 24 points, including 13-of-15 free throws. He was the only Apache in double figures.

Harper anchored an aggressive Navarro defense that throttled Tyler, which wasn't making many of the open shots it had.

The Apaches were just 17 of 51 (33.3 percent) from the field, including 3-of-12 three-pointers. Navarro was 25-of-56 (44.6 percent) on its field goal attempts, including 5-of-21 three-pointers.  Tyler had an eight-point advantage at the free throw line (22-of-25 to Navarro's 14-of-22), but that didn't atone for the Bulldogs' eight more field goals.

Tyler led 40-37 with 10:26 to play, but Navarro went on an 15-4 run, with Harper scoring fou field goals in a little over three minutes. Sam Ferguson added two free throws and Thibodeaux nailed a long three-pointer for a 52-44 lead.

The Apaches mounted one last rally on two free throws apiece by Moore and Mitch Marquis to pull within four points at 54-50, but Matt Pressey hit a 3-pointer and two free throws, and Jourdain Allou made two free throws for a 61-50 lead at 2:52 that was too much for Tyler to overcome.

Only 13 turnovers were called during the game - 7 by Tyler and 6 by Navarro.
