LUFKIN -- The Tyler Junior College basketball squads will not be riding victories into next week's regional tournament.
Angelina controlled both games Saturday as the Apache Ladies fell 91-69, and the TJC men lost 75-58 to complete the regular season at Shands Gym.
The TJC women (22-8, 11-7 Region XIV) finished third in the conference and will be the No. 3 seed for the playoffs.
The Apaches (17-10, 10-9) were vying for the No. 5 seed for the men's tournament, but settled for No. 7 and a first-round game with 10th-seeded Lon Morris (16-14) at 6 p.m. Thursday at UT Tyler's Herrington Patriot Center.
Sixth-seeded Angelina led the Apaches by 12 at halftime before quickly taking the margin to 23 (60-37) in the second half.
Malcolm Moore, TJC's leading scorer on the season, had 16 points against Angelina -- 14 in the first half. Freshman 6-9 post Kader Tapsoba had a breakout performance with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore post Jasmine King paced the Apache Ladies with 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Freshman point guard Latika Smith contributed 12 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Angelina won both regular-season games against the Apache Ladies, who are scheduled to play their regional quarterfinal game at 8 p.m. Friday at UT Tyler.
