The Tyler Junior College baseball team started well but finished poorly in a 14-7 loss to Grayson County College on a cold Monday at Mike Carter Field.

Grayson (7-4), a Division I junior college program from Region V, broke open a tight game with six runs in the top of the ninth off six hits and three errors. The Division III Apaches (11-6) had a 6-2 lead after four innings, and Grayson was on top 8-7 after eight.

The Vikings took the lead for good in the sixth on Josh Rosecrans' three-run home run off starter Derek Bowen (2-1). It was Rosecrans' sixth homer in 11 games for Grayson, which was coming off victories against San Jacinto, 11-7; and Paris, 15-4.

Grayson tacked on another run in the seventh, but the Apaches got the run back in the bottom half on Erik Weiss' RBI single to score Jeff Pine.

Designated hitter Tanner Smith went 3 for 4 with two doubles to lead TJC's 15-hit attack. Weiss, the right fielder, also went 3 for 4.

The Apaches, who lost for the fourth consecutive game, continue one of their toughest stretches of the season this weekend with the start of a 10-game road trip. TJC is scheduled to play Saturday and Sunday at Lone Star College-Kingwood in a three-game series.
