The Tyler Junior College baseball team continued its torrid pace with its eighth and ninth straight victories by sweeping Lon Morris, 21-2 and 12-3, in a doubleheader Sunday at Mike Carter Field.

The Apaches (9-2) clobbered the Bearcats (1-7) in the first game on the strength of a 12-run third inning. Jeff Pine and Eric Weiss each had three-run doubles during the big outburst and Tanner Smith also had two hits in the inning.

Weiss and Smith finished with three hits apiece and a combined eight RBIs. Josh Bates, Josh Salmon, Ryan Willnow and Pine all had two hits in the game.

Eric Bingham (2-1) struck out five in four innings to get the win in the seven-inning game. Robert E. Lee graduate Derek Miller struck out three in two innings.

Jacob Yanker (2-0), also a Lee graduate, earned the win in the nightcap by pitching five of the seven innings.

The Apaches scored five runs in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead. Weiss had the big shot with a two-run home run. Bates (2-for-3, three RBIs) was the only Apache with multiple hits.

TJC is scheduled to play Bossier Parish in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Monday at Mike Carter Field.

The Apaches' only two losses are against Bossier on the road.
