Senior forward Yoshica Spears (Nome, Texas/Tyler Junior College/Hardin-Jefferson) has been named Kent State Athlete of the Week. In the past two games, the Golden Flashes women's basketball team defeated Florida Atlantic 84-66 and Rhode Island 64-46.

In Kent State ‘s victory over Florida Atlantic Tuesday night (Nov. 24), Spears had nine points and eight rebounds to go along with five assists and three steals to only one turnover. Against Rhode Island Sunday (Nov. 29), Spears led the team in both points (14) and rebounds (nine). She also added five assists and two steals on only one turnover. She finished the week 10-17 from the field (58.8 percent) and an assist-turnover ration of 5:1.

For the season, Spears leads the team with 46 rebounds (9.2 per game) and is third in points with 8.8 per game.

The Kent State women's basketball team returns to action Saturday (Dec. 5) when it hosts Northeast Ohio-rival Cleveland State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
