The #3 TJC Apaches dropped their final regular season game against NJCAA Div I power Blinn Bucaneers 22-9 on Saturday at Mike Carter Field. Blinn is a team that has been mentioned in the National Division I rankings this spring and is having another good year. They've secured a 2 seed in their NJCAA Regional, just behind perennial juco power San Jacinto.
For immediate release:
The game was preceeded by a ceremony honoring the 14 sophomore players with their families joining them on the field at home plate. This group of sophomores help lead the Apaches in winning 17 straight MAC series over the past two seasons, were part of the Apaches winning back to back MAC Championships, and helped keep the TJC baseball program among the Nation's best, currently ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA poll.
The Apaches will take final exams this week and prepare to play in the NJCAA District C playoffs in McKinney, TX on Friday at 3:00 pm against the #9 North Arkansas College Pioneers.

Coach Groth on Game:
"...Blinn is a very physical, power hitting team with over 100 home runs on the season...our sophomore pitchers we not sharp and the Blinn hitters made us pay for every walk or hit batter...it seemed like every time we walked someone or hit a batter, the next guy hit a double or home run ...they were impressive with the bats today...we haven't played in a week and we pitched like it..."
"...normally 9 runs on 15 hits gets you a win, but not today...we did swing it pretty good today, but we were playing catchup all game long...each time we seemed to cut into their lead, they'd come back and push it out some more..."
"...we played two very competitive, close games down in Brenham a few weeks ago, but their offense just wouldn't let this game get too close..."
"...you can't get into the red zone 3 times and come away with field goals, if we get into the end zone when we had a chance, its a different game...they converted each time they got into the red zone, although I still don't understand them going for 2 that last time, but they converted it..." :)
Coach Groth on Day / Season:
"...Blinn is a quality, Division I opponent and they played one of their best games of the year...we didn't play poorly, but were not sharp on the mound and they pounced every time we gave them an opportunity ... we had to try and play catch up all day against one of the best power hitting teams at the Div I level in the country...and that's not our game..."
"......but we did see some good things that will help us for next week...our kids will bunker down for finals for 5 days and then its off to McKinney to try to win a chance to play in the World Series...that's something to look forward to..."
