Tyler Junior College women's golf team took first place at the Tyler Junior College Fall Invite on Tuesday at Oak Hurst Golf Club in Bullard. The men's squad placed second behind Lon Morris.

The TJC women had the third, fourth, fifth and six-place finishers and held on for a four-stroke win ahead of Western Texas.
The Apache Ladies shot 324 on the first day and 313 on day two. Western Texas shot 308 on Tuesday, but was unable to overtake TJC.

Lauren Smith of Western Texas shot a tournament-best, 2-under 70 on the second day to claim the top individual score (80-70 -- 150), three strokes ahead of teammate Julia Norman.

Behind the Western Texas pair, TJC golfers Elizabeth Rosebury (77-77 -- 154), Jacqueline Lujan (80-78 -- 158), Xeniya Zheleznova (80-81 -- 161) and Alexis Byerly (87-77 -- 164) finished third through sixth.

Whitney Flewellen (90-89 -- 179) finished in 12th for the Apache Ladies.

The TJC men earned a second-place victory by shooting 295-289 -- 584 on the par-72 course. Lon Morris won the event with a score of 285-276 -- 561.

A TJC B-squad took fifth in the tournament having shot 302-297 -- 599.

Individually, Jason Timmis of Paris Community College had the best two-day total (67-68 -- 135). Paris finished two strokes behind TJC for third.

Top Apache golfers in the tournament were James Glenn (70-72 -- 142) in sixth and Stefan Labuschagne (74-71 -- 145) in a tie for eighth for the A-squad and Jared Johnson (73-72 -- 145) also tied for eighth for the B-squad.

Also competing for the TJC first team were Blaine Weiterman (75-71 -- 146), Cody Bass (76-75 -- 151) and Cody Blankenship (77-77 -- 154). Sean Lyons (77-73 -- 150), Luke Loggins (77-76 -- 153), Daniel Gibbins (75-78 -- 153) and Mark Kreml (83-76 -- 159) rounded out the B-team.
