ATLANTA -- The Tyler Junior College Apache soccer team completed a successful Labor Day Weekend swing to Georgia with a 1-0 victory over No. 2 Georgia Perimeter Monday.
The No. 9 Apaches won the defensive outing with a penalty kick from Adam Girdlestone 12 minutes into the match. TJC's William Darier was fouled to set up the PK attempt.
For the game, TJC had 15 shots on goal to just two for the Jaguars. Tyler also had five cornerkicks to the Jags' three.
It was the third straight win by TJC to open the season as well as the Apaches' third shutout.
"We played well defensively," TJC coach Steve Clements said. "It was the first time we played on back-to-back days, plus we were playing a fresh team."
On Sunday, the Apaches won over No. 8 Louisburg (N.C.), 5-0.
TJC opens its home season with matches Friday and Saturday at Pat Hartley Field.
The Apaches meet Richland on Friday and Cedar Valley on Saturday. Both games have 7 p.m. starts.
