Tyler Junior College and SporTyler will host the NJCAA D1 Women's Soccer National Championships in November of 2009, the NJCAA National Office announced today.
"This is great news for TJC and the City of Tyler," said TJC Athletic Director Dr. Tim Drain. "With the beginning of our women's soccer program, and the great facility we have in Pat Hartley Field, it was natural for us to pursue this opportunity. We have hosted the men's national tournament since 2001, and are now entering into a three year rotation with that tournament. So, this means that we will host the women's championships in 2009 and then the men's in 2010. It is my goal that we could perhaps enter into a similar rotation with the women's tournament, so that every three years we would have both the men's and the women's championships, and then an off year."
"SPORTyler is very excited to be partnering with Tyler Junior College to host the 2009 NJCAA Division I Women's National Soccer Championship," said Cindy Smoak, Assistant Vice President, SporTyler. "This is a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful city of Tyler and TJC's excellent facilities. We will host the top eight teams from across the United States during this four day event".
