In a matchup of the NJCAA Division 1 #4 team and the NJCAA Division III #4 team, Tyler defeated Navarro 9-7.    The TJC Apaches finished off a remarkable turnaround regular season  at 30-19 with a quality win against a top five, Div I opponent.  The Apaches got out to an early lead on sophomore day and the sophomore pitchers held down a very potent lineup for much of the nine inning game.

With an Eastfield loss in their last MAC game against Cedar Valley, Tyler secured their second straight MAC Championship and a #1 seed in next weeks NJCAA District C tournament in McKinney, Texas. ( Link to Playoff Bracket:  http://www.geocities.com/metro_baseball/2008bracket.htm  )

Coach Groth on today's game :

"...this was sophomore day and it could not have gone any better...all of our sophomores got to play, and they played well and defeated a quality Div I team...."

"...we scripted the pitching today and all of our guys threw pretty well...they are too good to keep down for an entire game, but we scored some runs early and our pitchers kept putting zeros on the board ...

"...we did what we do, played add on  baseball and we added on just enough to get a great and memorable win..."

"...I was really excited to see Randall Moore and Aaron Dalton do well...they both had productive days and hit with some unexpected power..."

"...Kinard, Page, and Worthen and Eatherly were especially effective in shutting out a very potent Navarro lineup..."

Coach Groth on Season / MAC Race:
"...I could not be any prouder of a group of young men...to have started MAC play 0-3 and 3-6, to have worked through the loss of a team-mate, to have perservered through a major probation issue for the first half of MAC play and to put together 9 straight series wins and clinch our 2nd straight MAC Championship is a major accomplishment worth getting excited about!!!..."

"...we've got some pretty lofty goals and aspirations after last year, but for today, we'll enjoy our MAC Championship..."
