A pair of Robert E. Lee graduates keyed the Tyler Junior College baseball team's 7-2 win over the East Texas Baptist junior varsity on Monday at Mike Carter Field.
Freshman Tyler Pirtle (2-for-5) had a two-run double in the second inning, and sophomore Blake Worthen (2-2) pitched four innings of relief to get the decision.
Worthen allowed two runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
"We had solid pitching from all five of the pitchers that got work today," said TJC head coach Jon Groth.
Aaron Dalton doubled in a pair of runs in the third to give the Apaches a 5-0 lead.
Grand Saline's Matt Johnson led TJC with three hits. Keaton Holland added two hits.
The Apaches return to Metro Athletic Conference action Friday at home against last-place Mountain View.
"We have six important MAC games remaining," Groth said. "We play Mountain View this weekend and we need to keep pace with the other playoff-contending teams to make our run of seven straight series wins meaningful. Despite taking two of three from the MAC's first-place team (Cedar Valley) ... we enter this next weekend in fourth place and actually dropped in the standings because two of the teams we're competing with swept their series."
The top three MAC teams will get into the NJCAA playoffs in McKinney in May.
Note: Saturday will be Little League day at Mike Carter Field with the Apaches holding a Little League Clinic between games. TJC plays a doubleheader against Mountain View beginning at noon Saturday.
