During Rose’s five seasons at Belhaven, the women’s soccer team has won 30, lost 35 and tied 4 matches. During that span, the women’s soccer team has held a 3.0 grade-point average or better.

In 2004, Rose was named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after finishing the season with a 7-1 mark. Rose also served as an adjunct faculty member at Belhaven, teaching in the sports administration department.

At TJC, Rose will teach health and kinesiology in addition to coaching the first women’s soccer team in the College’s history.

“We’re excited to attract the caliber of person we know we have found in Corey Rose,” said Dr. Tim Drain, TJC director of intercollegiate athletics. “He brings a wealth of coaching and teaching experience and a history of success in preparing students both athletically and academically.”

Since 2005, Rose has also served as women’s soccer coach for the Mississippi Olympic Development Program.

Prior to his service as head women’s soccer coach at Belhaven, Rose served as assistant men’s soccer coach at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, 2001-03; and as head men’s soccer coach at Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, IN, 1993-98.

On Tuesday, TJC’s intercollegiate athletic department announced the signing of Kayla Mason of Whitehouse, the first official signing for TJC’s new women’s soccer program.

The Apache women’s soccer team will join Region XIV to compete with rivals Lon Morris College, Navarro College and Bossier Parrish Community College, in Louisiana next fall.

The Apache women’s schedule is in the process of being formulated and will include other collegiate teams throughout north and central Texas.

Since the announcement of the new program in February, TJC men’s soccer coach Steve Clements has been in contact with high schools, colleges and universities throughout the country, discussing possible recruits and formulating a 2008 schedule.

The TJC women’s soccer team will play in Division I, which provides the opportunity for full or partial scholarships to players. There will also be a red shirt squad. Eventually, the program will have a red shirt coaching assistant, Dr. Drain said.

TJC will have an open tryout for its women's soccer program on Saturday, March 29, from 3-5:30 p.m., at Pat Hartley Field. The tryout was arranged by Clements and will be conducted by a Women's Premier Soccer League team from Dallas.

Prospective TJC student-athletes interested in the tryout are urged to contact Clements at 903-510-2687 for more details.

After Rose’s arrival, the TJC intercollegiate athletics office will announce a “Meet the Coach” event for parents, media and the general public, Drain said.
