The Lady Bearcats (7-3, 1-1) missed a shot to open the overtime and committed an offensive foul on their next possession.

TJC, meanwhile, converted on its first two possessions with Brittany Toran feeding the ball inside to Jasmine King for four quick points. King scored six points in the extra session and 19 for the game to go with 11 rebounds as TJC controlled the five-minute OT.

The Apache Ladies literally stole this game, picking off Lon Morris 13 times out of the 23 turnovers for the home team.

"We had to do something to slow them down," said TJC head coach Trenia Tillis-Jones. "They were one of those teams that never stopped moving. Our kids started reading that they were able to (steal the ball). We had to take chances. At first we were playing timid but we started going for the basketball."

The Apache Ladies finished the first semester on a high note by improving to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

TJC had to overcome adversity and a loud crowd as the Apache Ladies fell behind 52-42 with 10:53 left in the game.

But down the stretch, TJC picked up key steals and got solid production from freshman point guard Kelly Stewart to take a 66-62 lead with 2:31 to play in regulation.

Stewart had a chance to give TJC a last-second win, but missed on a scoop shot. She finished with 14 points. Sophomore Yoshica Spears contributed 16 points.

"Kelly is a major scoring threat and I thought in the first half (freshman point guard) Brittany Roberson showed how to play defense on their guards," Tillis-Jones said.
