Wayne State College head women’s basketball coach Ryun Williams announced today that Paige Pollard of Newcastle High School and Laquisha (luh-kee-shuh) Cook of Tyler Junior College in Texas have signed letters of intent to attend Wayne State College and play basketball for the Wildcats in the 2007-08 school year.

 

TYLER JUNIOR COLLEGE STANDOUT LAQUISHA COOK JOINS WSC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PROGRAM

 
April 11----- Today is the first day of the NCAA late signing period and the two standouts will join Jodie Boss from Columbus, Nebraska; Alyssa Fischbach of Northwestern High School in South Dakota, Mara Hjelle (jelly) from Mahtomedi, Minnesota and Julie Ann Wagner from Sioux Falls Roosevelt High School in South Dakota as members of the 2007 WSC recruiting class.

Cook, from Houston, Texas, will have two years of eligibility with the Wildcats after playing two years at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. The 5-9 wing player was a two-time honorable mention All-Region XIV selection after averaging 11.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game this past season. Cook helped Tyler Junior College to a 28-8 mark this past season and a berth in the National Junior College Division I Tournament in Salina, Kansas where the team went 2-2 at nationals. A graduate of Spring High School in Houston, Texas, Cook was an All-District selection and Texas All-Star while being named Defensive Player of the Year.
“We are very excited to have signed a student-athlete like Laquisha Cook,” said Coach Williams. “She is an exceptional athlete and has extreme versatility to her game. We anticipate Laquisha being an impact player on both ends of the floor. She can score in a variety of ways and will be fun to coach.”
Wayne State finished the 2006-07 season with a 19-10 mark, finishing fourth in the Northern Sun Conference with an 11-7 league mark. Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
