Tyler Junior College sophomore Kolby "Bud" Kidder was in such a slump a few weeks ago, he didn't even start a couple of series.

But he continued to work extra in the batting cage, and now he's riding a hot streak.

He capped off a four-hit game Monday with a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th to give the No. 1 Apaches a 5-4 win over North Lake, and a three-game sweep, at Mike Carter Field.

Kidder went 7-for-10 in the series from the No. 7 hole, including three RBIs and three runs scored. He entered the weekend hitting .345 with one homer.

"I've been seeing the ball well for the past two series, and everything finally jived," said Kidder, who hit the game-winner off a 2-1 fastball that was over the middle of the plate and a little inside.

The sweep allowed the Apaches to keep pace with first-place Richland in the loss column with only six conference games left for TJC (33-10, 26-4 Metro Athletic Conference).

"I've never been a part of a team like this," said Kidder, an outfielder from Crosby. "I've never been scared of losing a game yet, whether we're down 8-1, which we have been recently and we came back and won it. I haven't been nervous about that. I know we can win."

The Apaches won Monday's first game, 11-1, in six innings of a scheduled seven-inning contest.

Clint Stroud (2-for-4, one RBI), Brock Lemire (2-for-4, three RBIs) and Davis Page (2-for-2, three RBIs) sparked the offense, while freshman right-hander Cooper Page (4-0) threw a complete game and allowed four hits.

TJC's impressive defense turned one double play for Page before turning three in the nightcap. Also, shortstop Jose Molina threw out a runner at home in the 10th inning that would have given North Lake (12-27, 10-20) the lead.

"These guys just continue to amaze me," said TJC head coach Jon Groth. "It's been a fun ride. We're not taking anything for granted."

The Apaches will entertain last-place Mountain View in a three-game series set to open at 2 p.m. Friday before playing host to Richland in the final regular-season series April 27-28.

Area Highlight: Weston Parsell, a freshman from Brownsboro High School, hit a pair of two-run home runs for North Lake in the series. The left-handed cleanup hitter, who plays first base, hit a game-tying homer in the eighth inning of Monday's second game. He was 5-for-12 in the series.

Impressive No-Decision: Peyton Diers, a 6-4 freshman right-hander from Jacksonville, gave the Apaches six strong innings in the series finale. He allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits.

"Peyton gave us a really solid start," Groth said. "That was important for us in that second game."
