The Tyler Junior College Apaches defeated Snead State 15-9 on Thursday night at the 2017 National Championships thanks in part to Haille Weber, who drove in five runs. Weber drove in runs on a grand slam in the second and a single in the fifth.
The Apaches grabbed an early lead. TJC scored on a home run by Rebecca Snow in the first inning, a grand slam by Haille Weber in the second inning, a double by Shelbi Court in the second inning, and a double by Makenzie Chatham in the second inning.
TJC had 16 hits in the game. Court, Paysinger , Chatham , Goswick, Shelby Hotchkiss , and Weber each collected multiple hits for the Apaches.
It was the first career win for first year Apache head coach Maria Winn-Ratliff.
TJC advanced to face Region XIV foe San Jacinto later in the evening in an elimination game. San Jacinto fell earlier to #2 seed Salt Lake. The game was a heartbreaker for the Apaches, as they lost the lead late in a 3-2 defeat.
Rebecca Snow and Briana Paysinger each drove in one run to lead Tyler.
TJC concluded its third season, and first under Coach Winn-Ratliff, with a 51-19 record.
