POTTSBORO - Tyler Junior College's Marco Maldonado captured medalist honors in the NJCAA Southwest Golf Tournament Championship on Tuesday at Tanglewood Resort.

The Apaches finished second in the team competition, four strokes behind winner Western Texas College (300-300-300--900).

TJC carded a 904 (304, 298, 302). The Apaches were followed by McLennan CC and Midland who tied for third at 905. Tying for fifth at 911 were New Mexico JC and Odessa. Rounding out the tourney were Ranger (938), Jacksonville College (964) and New Mexico Military (969).

Stefan Cronje of Midland was second at even-par 216. TJC's Cameron Brown, a sophomore from Jacksonville, tied with Odessa's Adam Bloome for third at 2-over 218. Brown had rounds of 71-74-73.Maldonado, a sophomore from Diboll, totaled 4-under 212 (72-70-70) in the 54-hole event.

TJC's Oliver White tied for 14th at 227 with teammate Jonathan Shelton in a tie for 20th at 323. Other TJC golfers were Henry Bryden (T30, 236), Garrett White (T33, 237) and Ethan Bozner (T35, 238).
