Tyler Junior College gave 17th-ranked Navarro College an early scare winning the opening match 30-28, but after that, the TJC attack was gone.

The Lady Bulldogs took the next three games 30-20, 30-23 and 30-16 for an NJCAA Region XIV volleyball win on Monday night at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

Emmanuelle Lastrucci paced the opening game win for the Lady Apaches, pounding out five of her 16 kills on the night, while teammates Veronica Ogbeide and Naomi Mays added four kills apiece after trailing 6-0 from the start.

Tyler fought back to tie the game at 19-19 after a Mays kill, and finally earned a 26-25 advantage on a Navarro unforced error. Ogbeidi cranked out two kills, and two more Lady Bulldogs errors gave TJC the 1-0 match lead.

In Game 2, Navarro built an early 11-4 lead that was never tested. A kill from Lastrucci made it the close as it got to 15-10, but Navarro's Katie McCutcheon closed the door with five of her 12 kills in the match to seal the 30-20 second game Navarro win.

TJC handed Navarro 13 points in Game 3 with six service errors and seven unforced miscues in the 30-23 final score.

Lady Bulldogs' Amy Hafner reeled off a seven-point service run for a 17-9 Navarro lead before the Lady Apaches regrouped to pull within 25-20.

Nine unforced errors by Tyler aided the Lady Bulldogs' Game 4 win and Navarro's McCutcheon rattled off another five kills and Shante' Shead added four kills in the finale.

Lastrucci played a great all-round game for TJC with her 16 kills and 18 digs. Mays added 11 kills, while Ogbeide added eight kills and 11 blocks.

Navarro (32-5, 6-1), gets back to conference action on Thursday when it travels to Brenham to play Blinn. The Lady Apaches (20-18, 1-6), will next travel to play Seminole State College at 6 p.m. Wednesday before returning home for league action on Thursday against Paris at 7 p.m.
