CORSICANA - Navarro's No. 1-ranked defense had been getting the headlines much of the season, but on a chilly and windy Saturday afternoon the Bulldogs offense put on a show.

Led by quarterback Stump Godfrey and the running back tandem of Tyler Middleton and Traylon Shead, Navarro scored a 52-35 win over Tyler Junior College before 1,117 fans at Tiger Stadium.

The win moved the No. 11 Bulldogs to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in Southwest Junior College Football Conference play. The Apaches fell to 3-3 and 1-2.

Middleton, a track standout at Midland High School, led the rushing attack with 177 yards and two TDs on 14 carries. He also had a 40-yard touchdown reception.

Shead, the former Cayuga star who transferred from Texas, gained 124 yards and a TD on 19 attempts.

Godfrey, the ex-Gilmer standout, directed the Bulldogs' win with his arm and with his scrambling moves out of the pocket. He passed for 262 yards and four touchdowns. He hit on 17 of 32 pass attempts.

TJC quarterback Tyrik Rollison, who threw for 503 yards last week, passed for 372 this week. He was 24 of 39 with two touchdowns passes. Jeremey Chappelle caught 11 of those passes for 128 yards, including a TD and a two-point conversion. Tracy Smith had seven receptions for 173 yards and a TD.

However, no Apache rushed for more than 100 yards, with Shaquille Murray leading with 45 yards and a TD on seven attempts. All were late in the game.

TJC gained 551 yards, but the Apache defense gave up 649.

The Apaches were not clicking in the beginning and fell behind 21-0 before getting on the board on Rollison's 2-yard TD run.

But untimely penalties, along with four turnovers, doomed the hopes of TJC.

The Apaches had two TDs (pass to Chappelle and a 58-yard punt return by Lamar Carraway) called back due to penalties.

TJC did score two late TDs - a 6-yard run by Murray and a 58-yard TD pass from Rollison to Smith.
