BEEVILLE - The No. 8 Tyler Junior College Apaches completed a two-game road sweep with a 3-1 victory over Coastal Bend on Saturday in a Region XIV soccer match.
TJC (3-2, 2-0) and Coastal Bend were tied at halftime 1-1 as Junior Spinks, a sophomore forward from Brooklyn, N.Y., scored for the Apaches. Reid Pool, a freshman from Tyler, had a throw-in for the assist.
In the second half, TJC went on top 2-1 as Fernando Castellanos, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., scored off an assist from Jarrad White, a freshman from Jackson, Miss.
Atsou Ayah, a freshman from Tampa, Fla., scored the third goal.
TJC coach Steve Clements also noted the play of defensive midfielder Mike Paye, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C.
On Friday in Houston, sophomore midfielder Joseph Pratt, of Gaithersburg, Md., scored two goals as the Apaches scored a 4-2 victory over San Jacinto-South.
The Apaches trailed 2-1 a mere 13 minutes into the match. Sophomore Casey Osborne, of Atlanta, Ga., pulled TJC even in the 31st minute, and the Apaches went ahead 3-2 with two minutes left in the first half on a goal by Pratt.
Recording assists for TJC were Osborne, Alan Rovira (Simi Valley, Calif.), Castellanos and Paye. Castellanos scored TJC's first goal.
The Apaches outshot San Jacinto, 10-4. The Coyotes had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
TJC plays host to Northeast Texas Community College on Wednesday at the Pat Hartley Soccer Complex. The game has a 7 p.m. start.
