On a beautiful sunny and breezy day at The Cascades Golf Club, the Tyler Junior College men and Texarkana Community College women were atop the leaderboard.
The two teams were consistent during the two-day tournament and on Tuesday captured the team titles in the annual UT Tyler Fall Invitational.
TJC, led by medalist Chris George, combined for a two-day score of 594. The Apaches finished two-strokes ahead of a fast-closing UT Dallas squad. Tying for third were UT Tyler and Mississippi College at 605.
George (74-71 -- 145) earned all-tournament by tying for third. Other all-tournament selections were medalist Elliott Bingham (71-71 -- 142) of Mississippi College, runner-up Spencer Rothluebber (72-71 -- 143) of LeTourneau, Chase Curtis (T3, 74-71 -- 145) of UT Dallas and Keaton Kelly (5, 77-69 -- 146) of UT Dallas.
Others on TJC's winning squad were Ryan Mulvany (T5, 73-73 -- 146), Nate Anderson (T13, 77-73 -- 150), Andrew McLachlan (T20, 75-78 -- 153) and Sebastian Starud (T33, 77-80 -- 157).
Joey Rippel led UT Tyler with a ninth-place finish (71-77 -- 148), while teammate Cory Peiper tied for 17th with a 151 (74-77).
"The weather was outstanding and the golf course was great," said UT Tyler coach and tournament director King Campbell. "We had 14 men's teams and the competition was real good and on the girls' side it was also very competitive."
