CLEVELAND - The National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) announced the winners of the 2009-10 NATYCAA Cup at its Convention in Anaheim, Calif. last week. Iowa Central CC captured the scholarship college division with 158.5 points, Gloucester CC won the non-scholarship division with 131.0 points and Orange Coast won the state associations division with 167.0 points. Tyler Junior College finished in a tie for fourth place.

The NATYCAA Cup program was begun in 2004 and was previously sponsored by Pepsi. This program recognizes excellence in two-year college athletics based on success in championship competition. Schools are awarded points based upon their finish at their respective national championships. Each school can use their best five finishes in male sports and best five finishes in female sports. A team that wins a National Championship gets 20 points, runner-up gets 19, and so on. In the case of ties, points are averaged among the teams that tied.

Tyler finished third in overall men's sports, capturing points in soccer (20), football (5), tennis (19), golf (16) and baseball (19). The women's programs at TJC finished seventh in the country, capturing points in soccer (20), tennis (20), and golf (13).

"This honor is quite a fitting way to end the 2009-2010 academic year for our athletic department," said Athletic Director Dr. Tim Drain. "I am so proud of the coaches, players, trainers, and staff who worked so hard to represent Tyler Junior College. This truly was a remarkable year for our department."
